Results published today by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased slightly by 0.1% in August when compared with July results.
The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, increased 0.7% when compared to July.
Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers decreased this month. Fuel was 14.39% of Base Rates in August versus 14.88% in July.
“Although fuel costs are dropping, we saw an increase in the Base Rates,” said Doug Payne, President & COO, Nulogx. “Total Domestic and Cross Border Truckload had small increases off-set by decreases in Total Domestic and Cross Border LTL,” continued Payne.
