Results published today by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by 2.4 % in January 2015 when compared with December results.
The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, Increased by    2.8 % when compared to December 2014.
Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers decreased this month. Fuel was 17.22 % of Base Rates in January versus 18.56 % in December.
“Total Freight costs continue to rise driven by Truckload activity in January despite decreasing fuel costs.” said Doug Payne, President  & COO, Nulogx. “Once again Cross Border and Domestic LTL Total Costs slid in January, but were out-weighed by the Cross Border and Domestic TL increases.  Of particular note, we have seen a steady increase in accessorial charges, as % of Total Freight spend, since May 2014.” continued Payne.
