Results published today by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers decreased by 1.2% in September when compared with August results.
The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, decreased 0.7% when compared to August.
Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers decreased again this month. Fuel was 13.28% of Base Rates in September versus 14.39% in August.
“In September, both Base and Fuel costs dropped. Total Domestic and Cross Border LTL increased while Total Domestic and Cross Border Truckload decreased,” said Doug Payne, President & COO, Nulogx. “It seems the steady decrease in Domestic LTL over the past year and a half has levelled off and is actually starting to increase. The change in Transborder LTL is more significant and has risen at a greater pace over the past 6 months,” continued Payne.
