Results published today by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by 1.2 % in August when compared with July results.
The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, remained unchanged (-0.05 %) when compared to July 2013.
Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers increased. Fuel was 20.12 % of Base Rates in August versus 19.25 % in July.
“Total Cost of Freight is down 3.0% from a year ago.” said Doug Payne, President & COO, Nulogx. “Base Freight costs are 3.4 % below last year.” continued Payne.
