Results published today by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by less than 0.1% in June, as compared with May results.
The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, decreased 0.1% in May. Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers increased this month. Fuel was 12.19% of Base Rates in June versus 11.10% in May.
“Overall, Total Freight Costs were flat,” said Doug Payne, President & COO, Nulogx. ”Domestic LTL & Truckload increased marginally. Cross Border Truckload showed a slight decrease offset by Cross Border LTL showed slight increase – the first increase seen in 2016. Year over Year, Domestic Truckload is back to last year’s level while all other segments are below last year’s costs, with Cross Border LTL & TL being well below a year ago levels,” continued Payne.
