Results published today by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by 0.11% in March, as compared with February results.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, increased by 0.44% in March.

Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers decreased this month.  Fuel was 15.48% of Base Rates in March versus 17.35% in February.

“Total Freight Costs increased by 0.11% from last month driven by an increase in base rates in March, despite a drop in fuel charges,” said Doug Payne, President & COO, Nulogx. “All sectors increased marginally with the exception of domestic Truckload. Year over year, Cross Border LTL remains well above last years level. Domestic TL & Domestic LTL are above last year, while Transborder TL is below last years level,” continued Payne.
