Results published today by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by 1.53% in January, as compared with December results.
The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, increased by 0.64% in January.
Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers increased this month. Fuel was 13.31% of Base Rates in January versus 12.25% in December.
“Total Freight Costs increased by 1.53% from last month driven by an increase in Domestic LTL, Domestic Truckload and Cross Border LTL. Cross Border Truckload remained flat. Base Freight costs increased by 0.64%,” said Doug Payne, President & COO, Nulogx. “Of particular note, Accessorials as a percent of freight costs increased again this month. Year over year, Cross Border LTL and Domestic Truckload are above last years level. Domestic LTL and Cross Border Truckload are below last years level,” continued Payne.
