Results published today by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers decreased by 0.6 % in April when compared with March results.
The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, increased marginally, less than 0.1% when compared to March.
Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers decreased this month. Fuel was 16.04 % of Base Rates in April versus 17.02% in March.
“LTL Total Freight Costs increased, driven by Cross Border LTL and a slight increase in Domestic LTL costs,” said Doug Payne, President & COO, Nulogx. “Domestic Truckload decreased while Cross Border Truckload Costs saw a slight decrease,” continued Payne. “Additionally, we saw some changes in trends in April. Domestic LTL increased for the first time since last June, while Domestic Truckload and Transborder Truckload had their first decreases since September and July 2014, respectively.”
