Results published today by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the Total Cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased by 0.49% in November, as compared with October.
The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers, decreased by 0.9% in November. Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by Carriers continue to increase. Fuel was 21.81% of Base Rates in November versus 19.54% in October. Fuel has risen each month since October 2020 when fuel surcharge was 10.91%.
“Total Freight Costs increased by 0.49% driven by increased fuel and Cross Border LTL. All segments increased this month except for Cross Border Truckload which had a slight decrease. Base Freight costs decreased by 0.9%. Overall, year over year Total Freight Costs (Domestic LTL and Domestic Truckload, Cross Border LTL & Cross Border Truckload) are above last years level,” said Doug Payne, President & COO, Nulogx.
